Bravo!
If you are like most Steamboat locals, you have what the doc's refer to as "ants-in-your-pants-itis". It's a serious disease that can be identified by symptoms such as, skiing, riding, hiking, biking, swimming, gym-ing, and working all in the same day. Worry not, Steamboat, the prognosis is promising! Follow this simple remedy, and you'll be back to a normal pace in no time!
One Part - Yoga/Pilates - an obvious choice, perhaps...but when you have the options we do, it's worth a try! There is a seemingly endless amount of classes you can drop into throughout the day - so there is no excuse not to take a minute and breathe! Check out some of my favorites at Steamboat Pilates and Fitness (located just next to Creekside Cafe...we believe in the reward system here at Steamboat Scoop).
Two Parts - Dance (One part participation/one part spectator). Have you ever noticed that an impromptu dance party montage is a must have in any romantic comedy? Let's take a note, shall we? It's time to get up and get moving - and Elevation Dance Studio is the place to make it happen! Zumba, Jazz, Hip Hop, Belly Dancing - you name it! You can also catch their recital this May to see how the pros do it :) You can also check out the dancers of Steamboat in the Annual Steamboat Dance Theater Concert March 10-12!
One Part Music. If you missed the holiday concert of the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra, our apologies - it was spectacular! Don't worry - you can catch the spring concert! You didn't think we were just going to rub it in, did you? You can also enjoy the sounds of the Strings on the Mountain all season long!
Last, but not least, a healthy dose of Art. Why just enjoy First Friday Artwalk? There's great art here all the time! Our favorite? K.Saari Gallery located downtown next to Epilogue Book Store :)
Ahhhh, I feel better already...Oops! Gotta close my computer before I get to the top of the gondi! ;)

Happy Chanookie!!!
Or, as my father calls it, Chatchka-nookie :)
It never ceases to make me smile when I get to light the Chanukah candles and watch them shine brightly on my windowsill! Chanukah is such a fantastic time of year for family and friends. Looking from the outside in, everyone loves to think that Chanukah is about the gifts - especially those with kids! So, here are our top 5, local Steamboat buys for the perfect Chanukah gifts:
1. Menorah - all little kids should have one to call their own, but where do you find them in Steamboat? Off the Beaten Path, of all places! They have a few different options to choose from, as well as candles, dreidels, and Chanukah gelt!
2. Ski Gear - although my little boogaloo, Jonah Fleischer, would scream hearing me say that clothing counts as a gift, his parents know what's up when it comes to having the coolest kid's helmets and gear in town! If I was a little smaller, I would ask for these myself! Check it out!
3. Yeehaw! Bring out their inner cowboy/cowgirl at one of Steamboat's oldest establishments, F.M. Light & Sons. With everything from pink cowgirl hats and fun boots to fools gold, this is a great way to bring a little Steamboat home for the holiday. (There were Jewish cowboys, right?)
4. Toys, treats, and chatchkas! Oh my! Lyon's Drug has all of the fun dolls and toys that your little one can dream of! Steamboat's Ugly Doll home - it's always a hit! At the very least, there's a banana split in it for everyone :)
5. Pullin' out the big guns - what would holiday shopping look like without a trip to WalMart? Stocked with the newest Barbies and Iron Man shwag, you are sure to find the perfect toy for the "big gift"!! My personal favorite? The VTech laptop - only $30, it's a super fun way for kids to learn and play!
As always, the gifts are just the gelt...the real Chanukah miracle is finding the love of your family and friends around you! A very Happy Chanukah to all of my fellow Steamboat Jewbies! :)

It has certainly been a while...
What can I say? Life happens. After a summer filled with life changes, both fantastic and unfortunate, I am focusing my attention back on the things that matter most - my friends, family, and my favorite place to spend my days, Steamboat! I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday (is anyone else still full?!) and, of course, a fantastic opening weekend! It was certainly one for the record books and it doesn't look like it intends on slowing down, which is juuuust fine with us!
As we come into what is sure to be a wonderful winter wonderland, Steamboat prepares for the regular onslaught of tourists and visitors to the valley. When planning your next vacation, event, or holiday visit from family and friends, please allow me to be of assistance! I am so incredibly proud to announce Steamboat's newest (and only!!) private concierge service, Steamboat Concierge! We offer every service imaginable and even those you've never considered essential - from vacations and events to personal shopping and packing lists! We even offer nanny services!
I must say - it feels good to be back - cheers to a wonderful winter!
P.S. - I will also be coming back live on Twitter @steamboatscoop to keep you up to date on all of the festivities happening on the mountain and downtown!

Birthdays are the Best!
First, let me say I'm sorry for being so M.I.A. this week! If you're in Steamboat you know how hard it is to sit still long enough to do anything...but, I'm back to just in time...it's birthday season! While I have much love for my fellow winter babies, there is no denying that summer birthdays are a "go big or go home" kind of moment...especially in the 'boat! Since we are celebrating my dear friends birthday this weekend, I thought I'd share with you some our favorite ways to celebrate here in the valley!
1. Party Boat - No longer reserved for the Diddy's of the world, there are tons of great options here! If you're looking for a 'booze cruise', pack up the cooler and grab a pontoon boat out at Steamboat Lake. There is even a grill on board! Eat, Drink, and Don't fall in! If you are looking for more adventure, give the guys at Wake a call and tube, wake board, and water ski your little heart out!
2. Mountain Block Party - There might not be a sprinkler you can run through, but this is way better then your block parties you had as a kid. Cafe Diva, Saketumi, Powder Room, Slopeside, and Tugboat invite you to come back to the mountain for weekend specials all summer long! There will be drinks, food, music and more...the perfect place to celebrate!
3. Margarita Pub Crawl - A sorority girl for life, I'll never turn down the chance to dress up like an idiot and have a 'marg'! Grab the crew, sombrero's and some Motrin for the morning - it's time you tried all of the great Mexican hot spots in Steamboat!
Happiest birthday to all the summer babies!
Don't forget to follow us on Twitter @steamboatscoop to see where we end up for our celebrations!

Tiger, Tiger Woods, ya'll
While I understand that the U.S. Open is the golfing news everyone else on earth is interested...I'm here to report that I am putting a check next to one of my summer "to-do's"!! Yes, that's right...I'm a golfer!
Caddyshack quotes in mind, I put on my best golf course outfit (the clothes alone are reason to get involved) and strutted out to the driving range...not a clue what I was doing. But, mere moments after I picked up my first club? Whack! I actually hit it! And it went far!! I can't remember the last time I was so excited...that was it, I was hooked!
Don't worry, when I'm out on the pro tour, I won't forget to thank the little people...Luke and Tom over at Haymaker, you guys rock my world! Anyone who is interested in learning to play, these are the guys to see - they have awesome lesson packages put together for newbies and enthusiasts alike. A little birdie (Get it? Birdie? I crack myself up) told me that the 2nd Tuesday of every month they do free balls and instruction! Can't wait!

Rainy Day Rx
Steamboat is known for its active lifestyle and locals who love the outdoors...so what are we to do when our weekends are rained out?? Take it from me, no matter where you are, there is nothing better than a rainy day spent with a great movie!! I reached out to my fellow bloggers and Twitter followers to see what their vote for a rainy day flick would be:
1. While @OldTownpub would not suggest Valentine's Day (her hubby agrees), she always enjoys catching a new movie with her 4.5 year old twin girls...this week's pick? Shrek!
2. The general consensus among my college roommates was VanWilder...but maybe that's because it was stuck in our DVD player for months and we had no choice...we learned to love it.
3. Most of the girls at the Chamber (@SteamboatCO) opted for the ultimate rainy weather chick-flick, Sleepless in Seattle...while some chose a new spin on the rom-com, 500 Days of Summer.
4. New York City freelance writer, aka my older brother, makes the 'obvious' choice of an 80's movie marathon...Back to School? Caddyshack? Count me in...
5. As for my choice...I'd have to say, I'm disappointed in everyone else for not already curling up with the all-time-best-rainy-day-movie...(drum roll)...Singing In The Rain!!! Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Debbie Reynolds!! It just doesn't get any better than that!
And, as my dear friend pointed out: If all else fails, there's always a reality TV show marathon...

Yum! Yum! Gimmi Some!
Well, for me, today marks the beginning of summer in the 'Boat - The Main Street Farmer's Market is back!!
I could sit here and list all of the amazing fruits, veggies, cheeses, meats, and more that you can find there, but why waste the time! Grab your bags, head downtown to 6th and Lincoln and see for yourself! Once you've grabbed some goodies, why not head over to the Botanical Garden and have a picnic...or, if you're in the mood to grill-out, don't forget about the charcoal grills available over at Little Toots Park!
Hope to see you out in the sunshine!
**Don't forget to follow us on Twitter @steamboatscoop for more fun in the Steamboat sun**

Sorry, I was caught up...
It's true, Steamboat is a small town, and word travels fast. It's not all that long ago that my dear friend, Renee Fleischer, started what is now a staple in the life of a Steamboat lady. In a word, Zumba!
A promised fun workout, it always seemed like it would be the death of me...if you know Renee, you can imagine the thought of keeping up with this dancing queen is a bit daunting. But, week after week, I heard more rave reviews from friends of all shapes, sizes, athletic and dancing abilities. So, I gave in...and I'm never turning back!! It's like being back in college when you convinced yourself that dancing the night away with the girls canceled out all of your caloric intake for the week...but this really is a workout in disguise! It was an absolute blast! Count me in for the long haul :)
I felt so good about this decision, I rewarded myself with a salad and smoothie from my other new favorite hot spot, Sweet Pea Market Cafe. Mazel to me :)

Summer To-Do List
Make no mistake, while we do love our cocktails and 1/2 price apps, there is so much more to Steamboat than late night happy hour at Mahogany Ridge...which, by the way, rocks my socks...
Now, I've been called a lot of things in my life, but outdoorsy is certainly never an adjective you'd find near my name...but now I've lived in Steamboat for two years, so, in the spirit of the "when in Rome" philosophy, here is my summer to-do list:
1. Hike Fish Creek, Spring Creek, Mad Creek, and any other trail adored by my more adventurous Steamboat counterparts!
2. Go in a Hot Air Balloon...that's right, I've never been! Something about the Wizard of Oz always turned me off of the idea...but I see them every day - how can I resist?!
3. Go camping! I'm sure the very thought of it has all of my friends and family aching with laughter...
4. Learn to golf - as a tennis player since age 6, this should be quite interesting...
5. Last, but certainly not least, I will be participating in the 2010 Steamboat Triathlon...what can I say, it was an impulse and now I can't take it back - I'm determined to finish...Damn the man! Save the Empire! (love that movie)
So, who's with me?!

Happy June, Steamboat!
Well, Memorial Day Weekend was a success!
A biiiiiigggg thanks to all of the bartenders in town who made more Cosmo's this weekend than they ever thought they would in a lifetime!
The sidewalk sale was also a complete success - just ask my bank account! I'll be sneaking in shopping bags for weeks!
The big event to look forward to this week is the Steamboat Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10k!! Best of luck and love if you are running this year (I have a few brave friends I will be cheering on...woo!)...but let's not forget that these events don't happen overnight - volunteers are still needed, so if you want front row seating at the first big event of the summer - just email us at steamboatscoop@gmail.com and let us know when you can help!! Did I mention there is a free T-shirt and lunch involved??
Have a great week in the sunshine! Check back tomorrow for our Scoop Spotlight - and as always, follow us on Twitter @steamboatscoop for up-to-the-minute updates and news!

Memorial Day Weekend
Heading out of town for the holiday weekend? If you live in Steamboat, why bother?? We've got all the food, fashion, and family fun you can handle!
Back by popular demand, Steamboat's second annual Downtown Restaurant Week features special lunch and dinner menu's offered at the commemorative price of $20.10. What a great way to get a 'taste' of all Steamboat has to offer!
A Memorial Day staple in Steamboat, the Sidewalk Sale is not to be missed (but, really, what sale should be?). As the stores get ready to kick off their summer season, you will find some of the best deals and steals around! Because I am so dedicated to your happiness, I will volunteer to "research" all that the sidewalk sale has to offer...what can I say, I'm a work-a-holic! :)
But, wait! There's more! The Yampa River Festival is back to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Join Friends of the Yampa for events and parties throughout the weekend, all leading up to the always entertaining and impressive Paddling Life Pro Invitational on Monday. Watching some of the world's top kayakers beast the rapids is a Memorial-Day-must-do!
Hope to see you all out and about for a great weekend in the boat!
