Bravo!
If you are like most Steamboat locals, you have what the doc's refer to as "ants-in-your-pants-itis". It's a serious disease that can be identified by symptoms such as, skiing, riding, hiking, biking, swimming, gym-ing, and working all in the same day. Worry not, Steamboat, the prognosis is promising! Follow this simple remedy, and you'll be back to a normal pace in no time!
One Part - Yoga/Pilates - an obvious choice, perhaps...but when you have the options we do, it's worth a try! There is a seemingly endless amount of classes you can drop into throughout the day - so there is no excuse not to take a minute and breathe! Check out some of my favorites at Steamboat Pilates and Fitness (located just next to Creekside Cafe...we believe in the reward system here at Steamboat Scoop).
Two Parts - Dance (One part participation/one part spectator). Have you ever noticed that an impromptu dance party montage is a must have in any romantic comedy? Let's take a note, shall we? It's time to get up and get moving - and Elevation Dance Studio is the place to make it happen! Zumba, Jazz, Hip Hop, Belly Dancing - you name it! You can also catch their recital this May to see how the pros do it :) You can also check out the dancers of Steamboat in the Annual Steamboat Dance Theater Concert March 10-12!
One Part Music. If you missed the holiday concert of the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra, our apologies - it was spectacular! Don't worry - you can catch the spring concert! You didn't think we were just going to rub it in, did you? You can also enjoy the sounds of the Strings on the Mountain all season long!
Last, but not least, a healthy dose of Art. Why just enjoy First Friday Artwalk? There's great art here all the time! Our favorite? K.Saari Gallery located downtown next to Epilogue Book Store :)
Ahhhh, I feel better already...Oops! Gotta close my computer before I get to the top of the gondi! ;)

Happy Chanookie!!!
Or, as my father calls it, Chatchka-nookie :)
It never ceases to make me smile when I get to light the Chanukah candles and watch them shine brightly on my windowsill! Chanukah is such a fantastic time of year for family and friends. Looking from the outside in, everyone loves to think that Chanukah is about the gifts - especially those with kids! So, here are our top 5, local Steamboat buys for the perfect Chanukah gifts:
1. Menorah - all little kids should have one to call their own, but where do you find them in Steamboat? Off the Beaten Path, of all places! They have a few different options to choose from, as well as candles, dreidels, and Chanukah gelt!
2. Ski Gear - although my little boogaloo, Jonah Fleischer, would scream hearing me say that clothing counts as a gift, his parents know what's up when it comes to having the coolest kid's helmets and gear in town! If I was a little smaller, I would ask for these myself! Check it out!
3. Yeehaw! Bring out their inner cowboy/cowgirl at one of Steamboat's oldest establishments, F.M. Light & Sons. With everything from pink cowgirl hats and fun boots to fools gold, this is a great way to bring a little Steamboat home for the holiday. (There were Jewish cowboys, right?)
4. Toys, treats, and chatchkas! Oh my! Lyon's Drug has all of the fun dolls and toys that your little one can dream of! Steamboat's Ugly Doll home - it's always a hit! At the very least, there's a banana split in it for everyone :)
5. Pullin' out the big guns - what would holiday shopping look like without a trip to WalMart? Stocked with the newest Barbies and Iron Man shwag, you are sure to find the perfect toy for the "big gift"!! My personal favorite? The VTech laptop - only $30, it's a super fun way for kids to learn and play!
As always, the gifts are just the gelt...the real Chanukah miracle is finding the love of your family and friends around you! A very Happy Chanukah to all of my fellow Steamboat Jewbies! :)
